1-Blanket 4-Japan (updated)
Mar 24th
Updated on 25th March 2011:
This campaign is being extended to 31st March 2011 due to overwhelming enquiries & response from members of the public.
Below is an extract from an email from Dr Brendan J Gomez, a Director and Consulting Psychologist of Asian Research Center for Child & Adolescent Development (ARCCADE):
It is heart wrenching to see on the news that thousands more lives of tsunami victims could be lost due to freezing temperatures in Japan.
Thousands of families and children are in make-shift shelters with insufficient heating/blankets. Waves after waves of calamities have rarely been seen in other disasters. Those who survived the earthquake had to then survive the tsunami. Those who did had to then survive the fears created by the aftershocks (450 aftershocks ever since). Then came the nuclear radiation. Now, the extreme freezing temperatures.
Over on every major TV stations, people in Japan are pleading for blankets and heating to keep them warm. Children are most prone.
We have gotten support to begin a quick airlift of blankets to Japan.
We’re calling this project: 1-Blanket 4-Japan.
S P Setia Berhad is supporting this humanitarian drive, and we also urge all our fellow residents to join us for this noble cause. We seek residents’ contribution in form of a new blanket. There will be a collection counter set-up at Setia Alam Welcome Centre, from 24 – 26 March 2011, from 10am – 8pm. Our security personnel will also help to collect the blankets after office hours. The Rotary Club will then arrange for pick-up once we have collected sufficient blankets (target latest by 27/3/2011). In this context, we will need to give our best shot to collect as many blankets as possible and thus, help save more lives in Japan.

What is FIFA World Cup? From Wikipedia:
The FIFA World Cup, also called the Football World Cup, but usually referred to simply as the World Cup, is an international association football competition contested by the men’s national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport’s global governing body. The championship has been awarded every four years since the first tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not contested because of World War II.
The current format of the tournament involves 32 teams competing for the title at venues within the host nation(s) over a period of about a month – this phase is often called the World Cup Finals. A qualification phase, which currently takes place over the preceding three years, is used to determine which teams qualify for the tournament together with the host nation(s).
During the 18 tournaments that have been held, seven nations have won the title. Brazil have won the World Cup a record five times, and they are the only team to have played in every tournament. Italy, the current champions, have won four titles, and Germany are next with three titles. The other former champions are Uruguay, winners of the inaugural tournament, and Argentina, with two titles each, and England and France, with one title each.
The World Cup is the most widely-viewed sporting event in the world, where an estimated 715.1 million people watched the final match of the 2006 World Cup held in Germany. The next World Cup will be held in South Africa, between 11 June and 11 July 2010, and the 2014 World Cup will be held in Brazil.
